Black Bucks of America participate in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
June 17, 1775
The regiment of some 150 African-American volunteers is led by George Middleton and includes Phillip Abbott, Prince Hall, Salem Poor, and Peter Salem (who some later claim shoots and kills British Maj. John Pitcairn during the battle). They are credited with stalling the British attack and allowing the Colonists time to retreat.
